Our approach
At Pipe Organs Victoria, our pipe organ tuning & maintenance services are approached from the perspective of conservation. The pipework and tonal character form the essence of an organ’s unique voice, with Australia being home to many historically significant examples of organ voicing that deserve careful preservation. In order to safeguard the instrument’s historical and tonal integrity, we avoid disturbing the pipework except when necessary for tuning, essential cleaning, or critical repairs. We align our tunings with the seasons, allowing the pipes and mechanisms time to adapt gradually to changes in temperature and humidity.
Each tuning and maintenance visit includes a thorough play through of the instrument, and a careful check of each component to detect any early signs of wear and tear. We pay strict attention to detail in our tunings, and in addition carry out maintenance and adjustments of mechanisms and components to keep the organ sounding and functioning at its best.
We also cater for historical performance practices and temperaments in our tuning work. Our approach is shaped by the specific performance requirements of each parish or venue, and a deep understanding of the each organ's unique capabilities.
